How much whiskey , beer and wine can we consume per day

HOW MUCH BEER , WHISKEY AND WINE CAN WE CONSUME / DRINK PER DAY

   Alcoholic drinks are those drinks which contains ethanol , a type of alcohol which is produced by fermentation of other types of sugar , grains or fruits . It is legal to consume alcoholic drinks  world but banned in some muslim countries like Libya , Kuwait , Bangladesh , Pakistan , Afghanistan , Saudi Arabia , UAE and others . It is banned in some states of India like Bihar , Gujarat , Manipur and others . 

MODERATE OR SAFE LIMIT


 According to Mayo Clinic , moderate use of alcohol may have some health benefits but it's not risk free  . The moderate limit for women of all ages is a drink / day and as for men , over 65 years , is a drink/day and those below 65 yrs are two drinks/day .  Anything above this limit falls under the category of heavy drinking / higher alcohol use

1 drink in terms of quantity defined by Mayo clinic is :

• Beer -  355 ml
• Wine -  148 ml
• Distilled spirit-  44 ml
  (80 proof)
Distilled spirits are brandy , rum , tequila , vodka , whisky and gin.
80 proof is 40 % of the liquid is alcohol

Moderate drinking may help in reducing the risk of heart disease , reduce risk of diabetes and reduce risk of ischemic stroke .

But having even a drink of alcohol , may increase chances of throat or oral cancer by 20 % (1). If it's 4 drinks or above , the risk becomes five fold for oral &throat , 50 % for colorectal & breast , 30% for pancreas etc (2)(3)(4)(5)

WHO SHOULD AVOID ALCOHOL

- who are on certain medications which may react with alcohol
- who suffered from heart failure or have a weak heart -women who are either pregnant or trying to be pregnant
- those diagnosed with alcoholism / alcohol abuse
- suffering from liver or pancreatic disease
-who have had hemorrhagic stroke.
