DIY SURYA MUDRA

DIY SURYA MUDRA AT HOME 


It is a yoga that ignites the Angi/fire , one of the five elements , within us .


• Sit on a mat , not floor
• Sit in a sukhasana or padmasana pose .
• Put your hands on your lap
• Now touch the root of thumb with ring finger and put the thumb over the ring finger , other three fingers should be straight (not bended)
• Do it with both hands , resting them on your lap
• Now start deep slow breathing , in and out
• Focus on your breath

HOW MUCH TO DO PER DAY

• Summer - 8 to 10 mins (max)
• Winter -  20 to 24 mins

Note : this yoga ignites heat inside us , which cuts fat ,so in summers /hot climatic conditions , drink a glass of water before doing it . All other yoga's are done in empty stomach but this you can do  15 mins after eating anything

TIME

  During sunrise, after taking bath
  During sunset , These are generally the best time otherwise you can also do it in any other part of the day .

• Your thumbs should be placed on or close to the navel and index finger should point  downwards 
• Hands should be placed on the laps 
• The shape should be in the form of diamond more or less as shown in the pic
• Sowly inhale a deep breathe and exhale in the same way , concentrate on your breathing 
• Do it daily for 10-15 minutes /day 
• Should be done in a quiet place

Every one wants beautiful, long, shiny, silky, healthy hair but we do some very common mistakes due to which we we confront problems like hair fall , thin hair etc . Today I gonna tell you some basic hair care techniques , using which you can improve your hair growth and over all hair health naturally . 

• MASSAGING 


As daily  exercises are important for our overall health , in the same way hair requires daily exercise in form of a massage . It helps blood circulate properly to the roots of the hair , proving it essential nutrients and oxygen  for growth . It can be done even without the help of oils. 
For this , rub the scalp in circular motion with your finger tips for minimum 5-10 minutes daily. Make sure to cover the entire scalp and do it gently . Massage regularly to see the difference in a month's time !!  

•AVOID COMB SHARING 

Do not share your comb , hair brush , brush or towel with anyone as it may cause fungal /bacterial infection/lice sharing & dandruff . Also clean them time to time

 •Avoid Hot water/blowers/iron

Hair should be washed with cool water in summers and Luke warm water in winters . Warm water may destroy the protein , keratin ,(found in the hair strands responsible for the strengthening of your hair ) of your hair which may lead to hair fall/breakage/damage . Hair ironing and blowing do the same thing & should also be avoided everyday . Best ..Air dry your hair .

Those using hair dyes must check that the dye is not ammonia based as it will first bleach the hair and  then color it .In this process , the  hair gets damaged .So in order to save the expenses that we occur repairing those damaged hair in future by using serums , hair treatment in spas , using conditioners and hair masks etc , avoid these kinda hair dyes

  Use a broad comb that has broad tooths as clustered tooth combs may damage hair roots while combing and also cause hair breakage and due to express friction , harms the scalp too.

Avoid metal combs or cheap nylon combs as due to fiction they may generate electricity which may lead to hair sensitivity and scalp irritation .
 Many shampoos are chemical based even if they have a tag of "100% natural " or "Herbal" shampoo, which may contain sulphates, formaldehyde , parabens,sodium chloride & artificial fragrances  which in turn damages ur hair & scalp.  • Sunlight

Every one loves to eat sugar be it in form of pastries , cakes , puddings , kheer , etc . But if eaten above a limit , it can cause various diseases in form of diabetes , weight gain and so on .

SO WHATS THE LIMIT LIKE ?

WHO , in an article , dated 4th March ,2015 had reduced the daily recommended  intake of free sugars for adult and children  to 5% of their daily energy intake which comes to about 25 grams (6 teaspoons ).The earlier recommended limit was 10 % of the total calories intake .

The term sugar or free sugar or added sugar in this post applies to the glucose , fructose and sucrose / table sugar added to food and drinks by manufacturers , cook or consumers and sugar naturally present in honey , syrups , fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates. 

In a different version , the American Heart Association has categorised the maximum daily intake of added sugar intake per day  as listed below 
• Men - 37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons
 •Women - 25  grams or 6 teaspoons



HOW TO REDUCE SUGAR CONSUMPTION 

1. Start drinking tea coffee without sugar 
2. Cut you intake of colas, energy drinks ,syrups  gradually 
3. Reduce your fruit juice intake quantity
4. Try to replace juices with whole fruits 
5. Cut down on cookies and other sweet biscuits 
6. Diebetic people can opt for Stevia , a herbal artificial sweetener , it contains 0 calories 
7. Cut down sugar addition in sweet dishes like cakes, sewai , etc gradually  by reducing sugar addition  by 1/3rd or half .

 A tree  absorbs carbon dioxide( CO2 )and converts it into oxygen or stores that CO2 in itself, which is released by humans via breathing , burning fossil fuels like coal , petroleum/crude oil , natural gas etc .Tress also absorbs potentially harmful gasses like sulphur dioxide , carbon mono oxide from the air and release oxygen . A 80 year old beech tree approximately  absorbes 1ton of CO2 in its life span i.e. 12.5 kg of CO2 every year !! Where as a human breaths 1 kg of CO2 gas /day which is just 7% of CO2 that is produced by burning fossils fuels/day !!
Trees/ Plant play very important role in our life by providing us with food fruits and oxygen , the basic needs for our survival . They are homes to birds ,squirrels and also wildlife  creatures . They also are useful in removing heavy metals from contaminated sites .Trees like neem and ashok help in reducing noise pollutions . They are also a source of our timber needs and medicinal requirements . Provide us cotton hence clothing too.
Of late we have been hearing many deaths by heat waves from various part of our country and abroad . Definitely those areas were having less trees which led to high temperature and death!! Further more trees help in flood controls by reducing the force of flood waters. They are also wind breakers i.e. control the wind speeds . They can absorb tonnes of flood water. They also prevent soil erosion .

Since 1850 , the earth's temperature has risen by a whopping 36% and everyone is felling the heat !! More than 4 million trees cut per year just for paper use and with half of the planet's forest gone , the amount of CO2 is rising day by day . With more CO2 in the atmosphere , the Sun's radiation ,instead of reflecting back to the space , is being reflected on our earth , leading to rise in temperature levels.

HOW CAN WE HELP
If you have space in your lawn , plant any tress like mango , guava etc . If having less space , you can grow plants in pots. If you do not have spaces , support the NGOs engaged in planting tress , by donating to them .
Please do not wait for the government to do every thing for you . They have their own focuses or works. Go and buy a seed of any plant in a local weekly vegetable market (yeah !! You'll get it there ) , come home , dig a little hole and plant that seed . Just nurture it and it'll grow up to be you best friend for your life , giving u shade and fruit and most importantly oxygen , without which we can't survive for more than a minute!!

INTRODUCTION

Diabetes has become one of the most common diseases now a days which has affected approximately 415 million people in the world i.e. roughly 1 in every 11 person is a diabetic !! The figures are expected to rise upto 642 million by 2040 (source : diabetes.co.uk).

  What is CINNAMON ?

It is spice that has been extracted from the inner bark of cinnamonum verum tree having the properties of anti immflamatory , anti diabetic anti cancer , immunity booster , anti bacterial & fungal , heart friendly among others . It's has the highest anti oxidant in comparison to top 26 herbs  like oregano garlic clove etc . (Sources NCIB/NLM.)

SO WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED ?


Cinnamon is widely used in Indian dishes from veg pulao to non veg biryanis to ayurvedic medicines . It's used in the treatment of arthritis ,weight loss , lowering heart diseases (cuts bad cholesterol LDL and triglycerides) , treatment of Alzhimer's & Parkinson diseases etc and the most important in diabetic treatments .
An IT professional Mr John ,58 years old , had started consuming cinnamon to control his diabetes but after some time developed liver problems . Later it was found out that use of cassia , a cheap species imported from Vietnam & China , was the real culprit. It resembles cinnamon. After mr John stopped taking cinnamon his liver started recovering gradually .
Indian govt states that the annual consumption of cinnamon is 12000 tonnes annual . It imports 10000 tonnes of cassia from China Vietnam & Indonesia and 200 tonnes of cinnamon from Srilanka.India's domestic production rate is just 80-100 tonnes/yr. But contrary to the govt reports one trader from Kanpur had alone imported 9500 tonnes so the consumption rate may be way way above the govt figures. And guess what the market is surely flooded with these fake cassia , which replaces the original cinnamon . Import rates of cassia around 2015 was RS 35/kg and cinnamon was RS 200/kg which is further sold @ 150 -600/kg . A study by IITR , Lucknow found that coumarin , a chemical found in cassia , the fake cinnamon , damages liver & kidney . (Source - downtoearth.org.in)
Cassia imports from Vietnam were temperorily banned (around aug 2016) but again the ban was revoked around March  2017 , which definately is not a good news
   
REAL VS FAKE IDENTIFICATION METHODS !!


Have you ever gone to the market and bought those hard dark brown cinnamon sticks or sometimes bought sticks in the name of cinnamon , which do not emit any or little fragrance ? I now remember the mistakes which I had done earlier as I did not know how to differentiate btw fake & real cinnamon 
Fake cinnamon or cassia , is generally grown in China Vietnam and Indonesia where as the real cinnamon grows in Srilanka. In India it's grown  in Kerela and some parts of North East . Cassia , other than causing liver &kidney damage may cause headaches & digestive problems . An article in Oct ,2015 TOI stated that cassai may be carcinogenic i.e. may cause cancer .

THE DIFFERENCES : 

• The real cinnamon will have many spirals designs inside (see the cover pic properly) where as the fake cinnamon will have a tunnel kind of hole inside it .There will be nothing spiral inside it . 
• The real cinnamon is very fragile / weak , hence it breaks easily but the fake cassia is not easy to break • The real cinnamon is light brown in colour where as the fake cinnamon will have a dark brown or reddish brown colour
• Real cinnamon can be grounded to powder very easily at home but it won't be the same case with fake cinnamon 
• Real cinnamon has a delicate aromatic smell where as the fake cinnamon gives a pungent strong aromatic smell

HOW WILL IT HELP .
Sometimes we may find real cinnamon in our local markets or shops . Use the above mentioned tricks to spot the differences . Further more , buy from trusted shops/aruyveic centres  in your area who sell organic products . Buy whole cinnamon than buying it's powdered form .

CINNAMON VS DIABETES

CAN CINNAMON REVERSE DIABETES .

The article was published on the website diabetes.co.uk (1) dated ?? , The ARM found that consumption of 1 gram / day of cinnamon can increase insulin sensitivity and management or curbing diabetes totally and cinnamon was shown to be the most effective one (2)  The basis was a research done by Dr Anderson & team on animals to see the effectiveness of 49 herbs including falxseed , gensing basil etc , in which cinnamon proved to be the most effective one . Further more the article states that consumption of 6grams of cinnamon after meal reduced high blood sugar levels .

SO WHATS NEW .

A test on 8 individuals aged 25 yrs + showed that it can imitate as insulin and lower blood sugar by moving glucose to the cells (3)

In a small study of 7 humans aged 26+ , it was found that consuming 5g of cinnamon powder reduced insulin sensitivity( acts as natural insulin ) immidiately after consumption  for a period of12 hours (4)

CONCLUSION

Cinnamon has the potential to curb diabetes though more tests on a large basis is required . Always use original cinnamon powder and not cassia cinnamon , which is a fake cinnamon .
As in all the tests 1-6 grams of powder has been used , you can drink 1-6 grams(appx. 1 and half teaspoon) of cinnamon powder one hour before breakfast with a glass of water . Do not eat anything one hour after or before consuming the powder . Consult your doctor for the amount of powder you should eat . Over consumption of anything is harmful for health so always follow dosage instructions .
Last two lines , also make necessary changes in your life styles . Do exercise , walking for min 1 hr per day and avoid junk foods , colas , alcohol , smoking as this disease can be countered by leaving/avoiding those things/habit which aggravates the blood sugar level . Be relaxed , do not take stress . Eat fresh seasonal green leafy vegetables , fruits & foods . Good luck 😊

  We need to poop or excrete more or less each day to let out the undigested waste in form of solid , semi solid or liquid from our intestines . But little do we care to sometimes cheak the texture and colour of this waste . Little vigilance on our part can save us from many diseases . 

WHAT IS NORMAL POOPING ?

  Doctors state that if anyone excretes soft or semi - solid waste from 3 times a day to once in 3 days (to be precise 3 times /week) , falls under the category of normal poopers or persons whose bowels are functioning normally . Any thing which is more may fall under the category of diahorrhea /dysentery and anything less falls under the category of constipation respectively.


  We can divide our poop texture into 7 types which can further be divided into the below mentioned  broad categories .

CONSTIPATION

  It is a condition in which the stools are hard to pass through and they have lack of proper or normal bowel movements . The causes may vary from physical inactivity , certain medications , age , lack of fibre intake , pregnancy , over use of laxatives etc. Suppressing the urge to poop may also be one of the factors responsible for it.
  Females and males should try to eat 20 grams & 26 grams of fibre per day respectively. Drink plenty of water . Some cases of constipation may be cured by drinking warm water in the mornings or eating 3-4 grams(for adults) of Triphala powder before going to bed . If it still persists , kindly cheak with a doctor asap

 Type 1 - As you can see , this type of stools are separate hard lumps like nuts. They are difficult to pass through while excreting . Severe constipation

Type 2 - They are sausage shaped but lumpy . Mild constipation

NORMAL POOP

  These are the ideal poop which suggest that you are in a healthy state and try to maintain remaining in this category by eating fresh leafy seasonal vegetable and foods . Avoid excess alcohol smoking .

Type 3 - It is smooth and soft , with the shape like sausage or a snake

Type 4 - Shape is like a sausage but cracks on its surface . Consumption of more liquids is advised .

DIARRHOEA /DYSENTRY & URGENCY
   
This category requires immediate attention as it may indicate :
 Diarrhoea  - It is characterised by three or more loose , watery or liquid stools per day . Its general causes are contaminated food and water.
 Dysentry - It is generally caused by a particular type of bacteria or amoeba which can lead to severe or mild stomach cramps, fever  and severe diarrhoea with blood or mucus.
   Both the above mentioned diseases can be fatal if immediate medical help is not sought out for.

Type 5 - It's in the shape of soft blobs with defined edges and passes easily . You should increase the consumption of fibre through fruits vegetables & cereals. 

Type 6 - The shapes are similar to fluffy pieces with ragged edges , a mushy poop. Mild diarrhoea . Drink more water & fruit juices .

Type 7 - Watery liquid without any solid pieces .



Further more the colour of our Stool also indicates our overall health . According to Mayo Clinic these colours indicate :

BROWN - This generally regarded as the normal colour of the feces/poop. The body has absorbed all the nutrients and the food has been digested well .

YELLOW - This colour indicates excess excess fat in stool , such as due to malabsorption disorder for example Celtic disease 

GREEN - This colour indicates that you may have eaten diets having green colouring or ice pops /iron supplements or excess green leafy vegetables 

WHITE /CLAY OR LIGHT COLOURED - This colour is generally caused by lack of biles in the stool i.e. inability of digestive system to absorb fats properly . 

BLACK - This colour may be caused by consumptions of iron supplements ,bismuth subsalicylate , black licorice . It may also be caused by internal bleeding of the stomach due to cancer or ulcers. In the latter case consult doctor immediately .

RED /BRIGHT RED - It may be due to eating of foods like beets,tomato juices or soup etc (in this case , stool will return to normal colour within a day or two ) or may be due to internal bleeding caused by ulcers or even cancer . Consult doctor immediately .

 CONCLUSION

 Unhealthy stomach is the cause of many diseases. So in order to keep  it healthy , we must eat lots of fruits  and vegetables which are fresh and seasonal for the proper functioning of our digestive system . One should target eating a minimum of 30 grams of fibre per day with adequate water intake . Always wash hands before eating and always drink boiled or filtered water . Do regular exercise / meditation for minimum 30 minutes or do walking for an hour every day . Avoid junk foods like pizzas , french fries etc and  colas .

   Alcoholic drinks are those drinks which contains ethanol , a type of alcohol which is produced by fermentation of other types of sugar , grains or fruits . It is legal to consume alcoholic drinks  world but banned in some muslim countries like Libya , Kuwait , Bangladesh , Pakistan , Afghanistan , Saudi Arabia , UAE and others . It is banned in some states of India like Bihar , Gujarat , Manipur and others . 

MODERATE OR SAFE LIMIT


 According to Mayo Clinic , moderate use of alcohol may have some health benefits but it's not risk free  . The moderate limit for women of all ages is a drink / day and as for men , over 65 years , is a drink/day and those below 65 yrs are two drinks/day .  Anything above this limit falls under the category of heavy drinking / higher alcohol use

1 drink in terms of quantity defined by Mayo clinic is :

• Beer -  355 ml
• Wine -  148 ml
• Distilled spirit-  44 ml
  (80 proof)
Distilled spirits are brandy , rum , tequila , vodka , whisky and gin.
80 proof is 40 % of the liquid is alcohol

Moderate drinking may help in reducing the risk of heart disease , reduce risk of diabetes and reduce risk of ischemic stroke .

But having even a drink of alcohol , may increase chances of throat or oral cancer by 20 % (1). If it's 4 drinks or above , the risk becomes five fold for oral &throat , 50 % for colorectal & breast , 30% for pancreas etc (2)(3)(4)(5)

WHO SHOULD AVOID ALCOHOL

- who are on certain medications which may react with alcohol
- who suffered from heart failure or have a weak heart -women who are either pregnant or trying to be pregnant
- those diagnosed with alcoholism / alcohol abuse
- suffering from liver or pancreatic disease
-who have had hemorrhagic stroke.

3  If you are not allergic to garlic oil , apply it on your body

4  Squeeze lemon or orange peel ( santre ya nimbu k chilke) on your body. Mosquitoes don't like the smell of these citrus fruits.


**Bonus tip - Eat 2 raw garlic cloves daily , when you sweat out /perspire ,these garlic odour in your sweat will keep mosquitos away from you

NEEM

I use this method personally as it's 💯 % natural  to get rid of mosquitos from my room !! More so over you would also be safe from asthama , cancer , headaches , drizziness  that is cause by burning chemical based mosquito repellents like coil liquids etc

METHOD - 1

-Take a  empty mosquito  liquid refill vapouriser bottle (EMLRVB)
- Wash it with soap , the bottle and the carbon rod
 - Dry it
- Crush 4 camphor balls ( Kapoor / कपूर which is used in puja/aarti/festivals , don't  get confused with napthaline balls coz they r different & using them will harm you )
- Now fill 80%of the EMLRVB with neem oil
- Put the crushed powder of camphor balls and mix it with a thin stick/empty pen refill
- Now put it in the machine (like all-out/good night machine) , tighten it and use it as u use a mosquito repellant machine .

EFFICENCY & ECONOMY

 It's way more economical than the good night /all-out you buy . And if you know how to make neem oil at home , it's becomes more cheaper . It is 70 -80 % effective  compared to a commercial mosquito machine with 0 side effects . It will last for more than 8 months !!

MAINTAINCE
  Wash the carbon rod every month for best results .You can add 1-2 crushed kapoor in the remaining oil every month for best results

Take a diya/ दिया /earthen burner/oil burner . Put mustard oil & neem oil in the ratio 4:1 . Burn it . This will help you to be safe from mosquito's in case of electricity cut . Or you can use it at places like balconies where there are mosquito's .

METHOD 3

If you are not allergic to neem oil , you can apply it on your body too
One more method is to boil neem leaves and tulsi for 6-8 mins in the ratio of 1:4 and sprinkle that water with the help of a sprayer at the corners of your room .

Another method keep 1 kapoor on every corner  of the room as it's smell irritates the mosquitoes . They can't stand this smell for long

ONIONS

Mosquitoes can't stand the smell of onions due to its sulphur content , even if it's present thinly in the air

METHOD 1

-Cut a medium size round layer from the middle of an onion
-remove the inner ring from the cut layer so that there is a hole in the middle
- Place it on the top of your mosquito repellent machine, the hole in the middle will allow the vapour from the machine  escape to the air without any problem
 -the top of the machine will get heated up and in turn vaporise onion juice and disperse it in the air
This method is for lazy people  but is effective

METHOD 2

-Cut a thin cardboard similar to the size of  mosquito repelent machine's upper size
- make a small round hole in the middle
-now grate an onion
 -put this pulp around the cardboard that you just cut
-now carefully place it on the top of the machine
 -change the pulp every 2-3 days .
    When it become dry , just add few drops of water on the pulp from all sides

METHOD 3
-grate a small onion in a bowl
-add 2 cups of filtered water and mix it
-strain this into a sprayer (you can use the remaining pulp in your vegetables )
-spray at the corners of your room or on the window panels

METHOD - 4
- Take 4-5 bay leaves
-Sprinkle some neem oil in which you had mixed crushed camphor powder
- Burn them
The smell from bay leaves will make mosquitoes go crazy and they will fly outta the room .

CONCLUSION

  Also use mosquito net when you sleep at night . Wear full sleeve loose clothing because the mosquitoe's sting won't reach you easily if you wear loose clothes. Make sure water drains are not water clogged because it's the place suitable for mosquitoes to lay eggs /breed.

  Well those who know bout Frankincense oil well and good and those who don't know , would be happy to know bout this "king of oils " which , other than being helpful in your gum's health , arthritis , treating wounds, asthma , improves digestive system , aids in memory , it also fights various cancer !!

  Frankincense oil and it's it's ex have been used in Ayurveda and Egyptian medicines from centuries. In India , it's called loban ka tail , not to be confused with rock salt for which the Bengalis also use the word loban .
   This oil is derived from the dried saps of Boswellia plants  . The plants can grow with little soils on rocky slopes . These trees are found primarily in Somalia  , Oman, Yemen ,Ethiopia  and some parts of Russia , India ,Pakistan etc . They prefer soil which contain lime i.e. rich in calcium carbonate and can grow in dry and desolated places .

CANCER

  This oil contains boswellic acids which may stops cancer cells from spreading to other parts of the body i.e other cells and organs  (1) (2)

  The boswellic acids also have anti proliferative effect on tumours and tumour cells i.e. they  stop the normal  or aggressive  cancer cell growth .( 3)

 Further more in a study it was found that this oil has the virtue to distinguish cancerous cell and normal cells. It suppresses(kills) the cancerous cell (4)

PROSTRATE CANCER
       Studies have revealed that  the tirucallic acids found in extract of frankincense dried gum have anti tumour properties on prostrate tumours  i.e. it stops the spread of tumours and also had anti proliferative affect. (8)
 

BLADDER
 It was found in a 2010 study that frankincense oil extract had the capacity to recognise and kill bladdercancer cells without harming the normal cells . ( 4)


COLON
     Colon cancer is one of the most common cancer in the world . In a study it was found that an extract from frankincense extract killed the HT-29(Colon cancer cells ) without causing any damage or harm to nearby normal cells . (9)

PANCREATIC

In a study it was found that boswellic acid had pro apoptosis effect on pancreatic tumours i.e. a form of cell death in a series which eliminated the cancerous cells without causing harm to normal cells(7)

BREAST

   In a study , Boswellia acids have been observed to kill the breast cancer cells and make no harm to normal cells . (5) Further more in a small study on 231 BC cells, it was found that this oil can kill BC(breast cancer) cells to an extend of 61% + ( 6) The researchers claim that it was a cost effective & less time consuming process


BRAIN

  In a study upon 44 persons who had been treated  suffering from stage 1 or 2 brain tumours , it was found that those given BS extract  (frankincense extract) of 4.2 grams / day had 60%  less chances of fluid accumulation  in the brain (also known as brain edema) than those given placebo , who had 26% less chances (10)

HOW TO USE FRANKINSENSE OIL

Various methods have been mentioned but it is advised to consult a doctor and use it if you are suffering from cancer .
  You can use 2 drops of frankinsense oil mixed with equal portion of a carrier oil like coconut or castor or jojoba and apply on the affected area.
   Add 3 drops of frankincense oil in 250 grams of water and consume it .

   You can also put 4 drops of oil in a diffuser and allow it to disperse . Or if you do not have a diffuser , simple put 4 drops in small container  containing boiling water  so that it vapourises and its fragrance is dispersed in the room.

  Those suffering from gum problems either took chewing gum with 0.1g( 100 mg) frankincense extract or in form of 0.2grams ( 200 mg) frankincense powder extract (11)

WHO SHOULD NOT USE IT

  • Pregnant women should not use it as it may lead to miscarriage
